As a recent earthquake victim myself I sympathise with the people in Hokkaido and I hope that everyone who lives in Hokkaido is Ok.
Please be sure to post here and tell us all that you're all Ok. I hope that you all can get back on track soon.
Glenski, I know you live in Hokkaido. I hope you didn't get affected too much. |

7.1 and no known casualties or damage yet. Japanese is getting geologically rocked (pun intended). I hope Hokkaido residents are OK. |

We were awakened at 3:30 to a mild shaking here in Sapporo. My wife got up and took down mirrors and other breakables, while I watched over our son. It only registered 3 here, so it wasn't more than a bother and nuisance. My son didn't even wake up until I was tapping on the computer a couple of hours later!
Considering that this morning's news seemed business as usual, I would have to say that the Kushiro area didn't really get much damage. Will have to see later. |

Glad to hear that you're Ok, Glenski. It must have given you a fright!!
Yesterday there was an aftershock here which registered 3 and it did make me jump considering the fact that I experienced the initial tremor which made me fear for my life.
That is why I feel for those people who were in the epicenter in the Hokkaido quake. |

Unfortunately, no. There will only be periods of inactivity, some long and some brief. The question should be, "Will Japan ever REALLY be prepared?" At this point, I would question government regulations covering structural integrity checks. There should be a larger effort of public awareness about earthquake safety. |

Fright? No. Been here long enough. My wife and I woke up, waited for the BIG moment, then went back to bed when it was over. |

The schools I'm currently visiting have stepped up their evacuation drills. Since Niigata, there's been weekly hinan kunren ...
Although I'm used to it, it's still a funny sight when mid-way through the lesson all the kids jump under their tables! |
