Don't know anything about Chris, etc., but it is not acceptable (not exceptable) to wear shorts in class in Wuhan or anywhere else. You won't die - - I've taught in July and August - hottest months - in places just as hot as Wuhan and I'm living proof.

Just take a cloth handkerchief to wipe the sweat before it runs into your eyes. Salt burns.

You mean Chris Rile??

Not me but three of the teachers I work with went through him. Apparently he's a bit of a liar. Not a terrible one but you will definitely need to get hard copies of everything he says to you. He misinforms about conditions and contract provisions apparently. Then refuses to take your phone calls or email if you complain to him.

Be very careful.
