well i found something on the net with a small private language school, 150.000yen a month, free western-style accommodation, work monday-saturday teaching adults and kids, sundays off, not sure about the hours, 7 month contract but with the possibility of being extended, what do you guys think?? worth it or not?
sounds like a way to get my foot in the door so to speak but i'm not sure...
Confused

Are you sure it's not 250 000yen? It sounds like you are 100 000yen short. If you are supposed to work 6 days a week, 150 000yen is a very very low salary. Even with a free apartment. The 7 month contract also makes me cringe a little. I think you need to do some more searching.

The salary plus the six-day work week seem a bit insulting...

Well, the rent is free, so that is an additional 40,000-70,000 monthly, but free rent is not taxed. It's still a shabby salary, unless they are footing the costs of all of your bills as well (transportation, utilities, etc). I'd recommend that you keep looking for a better job.

yeah it does sound kinda shabby, it is 150.000yen a month, i guess they would say that's because you get an apartment "rent free", but working six days a week mon-sat deserves a slightly higher wage, 200.000yen i'd say.
apparently one of the teachers is going back to the states cos of family problems so they need someone to hold down the fort until he/she comes back(if he/she comes back-the owners were not sure). anyway i think i'd rather look for something else.

I'll add to those that say such a salary is too low. I got my first job in 1998 and had my apartment for free, but I STILL got paid 250,000 yen/month. Six days a week is too much for that meager pay. I think labor laws state you must get 2 days a week off anyway.

Have you already given them your credentials?
If you have already talked to them, and you think they are interested, I think you should still persue this opportunity. If you haven't talked to them, you really should.

If they are interested, you should see if you can work them up to 200,000 and discuss the labour laws with them that would enable another day off.

It means there is a lot of BS to put up with and the safest place is in the classroom.
