I'm not actually teaching in Cambodia (i'm in Buenos Aires) but visited the country a couple of years ago and loved it so i check out this forum from time to time. Anyway, from today's Guardian in England, 2 stories showing the different sides of Cambodia:

Hey Matt
Thanks for the post, but I can't get the happy story..what was it about?
I am hoping that the bust of the sex place was the sad one... |

It appears to have been taken off the site for some reason, not sure why. It was published on the same day as the kidnapped sex workers story. Basically it was about 4 families who escaped the Khmer Rouge in 1976 (i think) and had been living in the jungle on the vietnamise border under the impression that the KR was still in power. Every time they heard a noise or saw people they moved on and remained on the run until about a month ago when one of the group was badly injured and they had to seek outside help. It was at this point, after 28 years in the jungle, intermarrying bewteen the families and living off whatever they could find that they found out the KR were long gone and they were all reunited with family members who had obviously long given them up for dead.... |
