| I've decided there is no trust between my current employer and I. I am leaving. I will ask for a release, if I get it is not a concern. I need know what I need to get on a plane, and leave the country. I have either lost, or had my greenbook stolen. I'm really not sure, not the point. I need to know if there is anything else neccesary for me to leave the country. I have my passport, but the Z-visa has expired, which seems to be commonplace. Any knowledge is welcome. Also, I would prefer to stay here and do a 6-month contract with a school that has the good nature to pay it's foreign teachers on time and in full as the contract would state. If anyone has a school for me within 10 hours of Shandong, I'm more than willing. Shoot me a PM. |

Slow down... deep breaths...ok?
You NEED your greenbook.
Before you do anything else, find it or get it replaced. |

Yup
get that green book and then do a midnight run. Act nice to admin, suck up to them and get a new green book. As soon as you have it, book out of there to the airport and fly away home.
Good luck |

| A new green book will take time and depends on you status wheither you can stay or not....try calling you embassy or consulate and explaning the problem that you have to leave (due to family) and you have no green book..see what they say...waiting on a green book will take notice and newpaper ads as well as paperwork...sometimes employers will take the green book to insure the FT stays on...with Chinese teachers they take their Diploma... |

Green book, nonsense.
If you have a valid visa in a valid passport you DO NOT need the green book. I come and go often and have NEVER been asked for the green book. |

Hola!
Cujobytes is correct, you don't need your green book to leave China. I have left China twice during my time here, you need a valid passport. That's it.
No big deal.

My experience alone, for what it is worth:
If you have a new return visa in your passport when you leave, you won't be asked for the green book.
If you have a valid multiple-entry visa in your passport when you leave, you won't be asked for your green book.
If you leave without valid multiple-entry visa and no return visa, you will be asked for your green book. I had to leave suddenly for a funeral a little while back. I had no return visa and only an expired single-entry visa in my passport. Shanghai Pudong Immigration Control demanded the green book. I explained that my absence would be only for a few days, that it would be less trouble for everyone if I just kept the green book. All to no effect. "You are in China. You must follow our laws. If you don't give us your green book, you may not leave the country" - I quote exactly. So I handed over the book and then went through the drama of getting a new one when I returned.
But China is a strange place where interpretation of the law depends on the local peculiarities - so anything is possible, I suppose. Nevertheless, I wouldn't try leaving Pudong with no valid visa and no green book. |

| Didn't the OP state that his/her visa has expired? This is common as the green book takes the place of your visa. I think if your visa has expired and you DON'T have your green book, then there could be problems. |

Geez lousie people, doesn't anyone bother to use the SEARCH function on these forums?
If the OP has a single-entry Z-visa and it has expired, then it's crucial that he have his residence permit to leave the country. If he has a multipe-entry visa, there is no problem. Getting the green book should be a priority now, if all else fails, he may have to stick out the remainder of the contract.

Thank St. Anthony, I've found my book. Now I'm closer than ever. I appreciate all the help everyone. Hopefully, I'll stay in the country if I can get a new job, there are a couple that seem workable for me.
At the risk of sounding hypocritical, I will say, I don't recomend anyone to leave their employer mid-term. But if the circumstances have made you come to the conclusion that there is a serious breach of trust and no other method seems applicable, then you must do what is best for your own survival. That is one thing I have observed in my time here, survival is the main goal. So now I'm learning to swim, since I've been out at sea.
Thank you all again. |

| Yeah, I missed the bit about his visa having expired. Can't get my head around the idea of having an expired visa, green book or no I think we should all keep our visas current. |

| Every thing is kosher since my green book doesnt expire till late next year. I'm leaving the school very soon. If anyone has a job, im willing to travel anywhere in China, so please let me know. I don't want my trip here to be shortened because of one school's bureaucracy. |
