I was just looking at a job application for an ESL position in Russia. They want to know if I have any work experience teaching "ESP." Is it just a typo? |

Hi Kait:
Nope, it's not a typo.
Within the context of TESOL, ESP stands for English for Specific Purposes and is an umbrella acronym for all those specialised English language programs (often with highly specialised jargon) that don't fit neatly into the 'General English' category.
i.e., Business English, Legal English, Information Technology, Engineering, Medicine, Hotel English, etc ...
While we're on the subject of confusing acronyms, here's a handy link - courtesy of Stephen Jones.
If you enter ESP into the search box, you'll find the definition you're looking for on page 3:
http://www.acronymfinder.com/ (Acronym Finder / 371,000+ acronyms, abbreviations & initialisms)
And one more link with some useful ESP content:

PS: I just noticed that this is post #666 for me. |

A random word of kindness? It must be Christmas.
I'm glad you're enjoying the Master Index, Antaraaaa; thank you for the compliment.
Speaking of Thailand; it was 32C and sunny today. |

If it is 32 degrees I think Santa might get a bit hot soon. Surely even Santa doesn't wear that on the beach. If he does, he's a better man than I. |

Well now, i know what the weather is.....SINCE I AM HERE! woooooohoooo:)
Bangkok rocks so far! What a crazy place! I love it! I arrived here at 2 am yesterday and entered what must be the worlds best airport: where else do you get duty free shopping upon arrival? I also really appreciated the free carts- a small gesture but it made me feel very welcome. The smiling and friendly staff on customs were also neat.
I am here for a couple of weeks taking a Thai massage course then back to Canada to get ready for the next adventure:)
Life is beautiful
Just a quick note about exchanging RMB...Bank of China will NOT take it here (what the hell is up with that??). I had to go to the Bank of Bangkok who proceeded to give me a crap rate-making my life very "budget concious". However, I am a low maintenence chick so i shall trudge happily along and try not to cry when i see the 10 BILLION things I would like to buy |
