Much as I would like to join like minded souls on the weekend to celebrate in a mutal throng I can't .
The sad truth is that as far as the fair city of Izmir is concerned the xpats are unable to organize an event worth attending of their own .They have the cheek to whine about the lack of orgaization of the locals . So much for the season of goodwill ,the only spirit they seem interested in is the one found in a bottle ,is that what it has now become ?
Dare I say it ? December the 25th has just become another date on the calender ,some people are even working on that day !!
Is any one ever likely to start a REAL expat social club in this place ?

Christmas party at NAYAH (Balo Sokak NO:14) on Friday. There'll be plenty of Christmas decorations and Christmas music! 10 million for a ticket includes a beer, the money goes to charity!

Sitting at school listening to Christmas music...but theres a twist...the music is coming from the website of my strongly Islamic private school. The best part is that this is their music year-round.

For a good laugh visit http://www.coskunkoleji.org

'What child is this who laid to rest...'

I love you Isa!

For the lise 3 graduation ceremony at my school last year they played God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Given that English language learning (and secular Ataturky-ness) is a huge part of the school's curriculum, I was surprised to note that no one, not even the teachers in my department, had noticed the rather inappropriate nature of the lyrics--
Quote:
God rest ye merry gentlemen, let nothng you dismay, for christ our savıor was born on Christmas day to save us all from Satan's power when we had gone astray...

Fun seasonal note: Garanti Bank's World Card elves were out on Bagdat Cad this afternoon, clad in little mini green santa suits and white afros, boogeying on down with their jazz band in tow.

Otterman, sorry. There is an Izmir ex-pat club (of sorts).

For your (and others) info. :-

Christmas Mass at St John's, Alsancak, 8pm Christmas Eve
Christmas Day services are at St. John's at 9am and at
St. Mary's, Bornova at 11.30 am

There are two separate lunch time (actually mid-afternoon) gatherings that I know of which are more or less open house. PM me for more info.

There is also a New Year party planned. PM me for info.

I missed the whining about stuff in Izmir, who's whining? They are also welcome.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS to everyone. Have a good time. We will!!
