I plan on heading to Brazil around December and looking for work (away from sao paulo or rio). Are there good months and bad months to look for work? Is there some particular time when more people are hiring, or more importantly, is december a down month, if there are such things?

I think December and July are vacation times for many Brazilian schools. Jobs may begin in January-February, or in August. I'm beginning a job in early February in Sao Paulo state. Wish I could give you more details, but since no one else has answered, thought I'd tell you what I know. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I think I'll head to Brazil mid-January and start my search...hopefully that'll work out perfect!

By the way, is your job in Sao Paulo itself, or just in the state? I'm looking for a nice city that's not too big...NOT sao paulo or rio...and i'm afraid i may be ruling out some nice spots just cuz sao paulo appears somewhere in the name. Do you know much about the area? If so any suggestions of places to check out (surfing, rock climbing, and capoera a plus!)?

My wife is Brazillian and she says it may not be a good idea to start your job hunting in the summer ( jan, feb). It is standard practice for brazillians to have an entire month off each year, and of course they all want it to be in the summer! It would be really frustrating to ask to see the dean of the school, and hear,"I'm sorry, he won't be back in the office til next month". Try to shoot for mid to late February. After carnival.
You should try the island of Floianopolis. Good waves, lots of girls (guys too if your a girl), and it's really beautiful. Good Luck-Jeff
