I'm moving to Osaka next month to begin looking for openings at conversation schools. I've read a number of posts that say the job scene in Osaka is not the best, but I'm fine with that.
While in Osaka, what is the best way to find out about job openings? I know some newspapers publish openings. Do other publications, like Kansai Time Out print them? I just want to be as quick and efficient as possible when job hunting. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks. |

Kansai Time Out comes out once a month. Best place is Kansai Flea Market (every week) also available at the gaijin bars. the International center in S-h-i-t-ennoji may have some job ads up as well.

Just in case anyone's wondering, there really is a neighborhood called "S h i t e n n o j i". Paul was not trying to be clever by talking about the dirtiness of the real Tennoji area while getting around the censors. The International House he's talking about is on Uemachi-suji in the S h i t e n n o j i area.
As for the job scene. For Osaka to be the largest city outside of the Tokyo-Yokohama-Chiba-Kanagawa area, there are surprisingly few jobs here. The Kansai Flea Market comes out every Thursday and is free. Aside from that and the Kansai Time Out (which comes out monthly), I am not aware of any other publications that cater to finding jobs in this area. You might find some advertised on community center bulletin boards, but I think the majority of them are found by word of mouth. |

Couldn't one simply type shitennoji? |

Nonsense like this is what kills me about this site and discourages me from posting so much on it. But I'll take the bait anyway.
So many words on this site are automatically censored and show up as "*beep*". In fact, some words that you wouldn't exactly expect to be censored really are. I don't think Paul or I should be criticized because we didn't know S hitennoji was safe to type. Some sites censor place names like "Fukuoka" or "Fukui". Now, if S hitennoji wasn't a "safe" word and Paul mentioned "The International House in *beep*," that would only cause confusion and warrant another post to clarify. So why not bypass this confusion altogether by simply typing it with spaces or dashes between each letter?
Before this post, this thread had four posts. Only two of them contained any meaningful information related to the original question. The other two focused on something that is, frankly, really stupid, much like the way so many other people "debate" on this site about little things while ignoring the larger, more important points people make.
By the way, NO, you can't type S hitennoji. The only way you could do it in your previous post Nismo was to insert a bit of meaningless HTML in the middle of the word (sh<b></b>itennoji). Grow up, man. |

Amen Zzonk!!!
Back to the original post, there is also another freebie magazine, Kansai Scene, that has some job postings in the back, although there aren't many.- 12 were listed this month and not all were in Osaka or full time. It's a monthly magazine as well and I usually pick up a copy at the tourist office, but I am sure it is available other places. |

Thanks, everyone, for your responses.
I'm familiar with Osaka, but not with the international house in s h i tennoji. Assuming I'm in Umeda, what's the best way to get there? |

Might want to try a kiosk in a subway station. That's where I would look first. |

I get mine in the tourist office on the 1st floor of the OCAT building- it's next to the 100 Yen Plaza. I think I have also seen them at a bar, but I can't remeber which one, so check out OCAT.
To get to the tourist office in case you're unfamiliar with OCAT- go in the street level facing Sennichimae and head straight towards the back and the tourist office will be in the center just past the big screen TV.
Or the JR station is on the basement level, so just go up the escalators next to the UFJ ATM and head to the left once you get to the top. |

Take the Tanimachi line south from Higashi-Umeda towards Tennoji (purple line on the subway map) Shi-Ten is one stop before Tennoji and is called s_hitennoji-mae. The International House is in a north easterly direction about 150 meters from the northern subway exit. Go out of the subway and walk north along Tanimachi-suji about 100 meters. Turn right at about the 2nd intersection and walk for about another 200 meters you will see a big greyish building on the left. If you get lost just ask someone it's so big you cant miss it. they also have CNN on the TV in there too and English newspapers. Could spend a whole afternoon in there. In case you dont know, a branch office of the Osaka immigration office is around the corner from IH and you can get a re-entry visa stamp at the immigration office there too.
And yes, this website automatically blocks out swear words, any slang to do with genitalia, four letter words even if spelling of same words has other meanings, hence the hyphens to separate letters. even F-U-K-U-O-K-A gets blocked if you type it in normally and the past tense of Japanese verbs ending in S-H-I-T-A.

If you want dirt go down to Shin-Imamiya one stop from Tennoji which is where the homeless and downtrodden, working day laborers etc gather to get their jobs. On a good day you can catch a whiff of the pleasant aroma of cheap sake and urine. |
