xnihil -
(I'm really loathed to do this because I think I know what the answer is, but....)
Are you a truck??
I agree to an extent about the smell thing, there is nothing more offputting than a bad smell, but I don't thing it's the be all and end all. If you grow to like a person you grow to like their smell too. |

No Katy, I'm not a truck
You may think that the like of the smell comes after the love of a person, but I'm here to tell you, smell hits you miles before anything else does, and you don't even notice it. Its subliminal and automatic. And it all has to do with body chemistry.
We like to think that we have control over our desires, but we are, still, biological animals with instincts and reflex responses we still do not comprehend.
That being said, it is perhaps possible the I am extreme in this particular case. But I still maintain, the way to someones heart, isn't through their stomach, its through the schnozz! |

I agree with X to an extent. I think the pheronomes are what explains 'attraction.' It is certainly nearly the whole story for the rest of the mammals. But, I don't believe that it is what keeps a couple together for the long term. That is where the mind comes in. How many times have you been strongly physically attracted to someone (even someone who doesn't fit your personal definition of 'attractive'), but after a few dates, you run for the door. Humans are just more complex and therein lies the problem. (and the plot for a plethora of novels)
