How long is a piece of string? I've heard cases of teachers waiting over 3 months. One teacher I know waited 3 months before she even got paid her salary, forget about the living allowance. If you ask NESTA to help they'll ring someone and nothing will happen. But they be able to say they're the NETs representative to the EMB, pat themselves on their backs, go back to their drinking and self congratulating. If you ring the EMB they'll do nothing. If you join the ETA they'll get lawyers onto it and the EMB will fall all over itself to solve the problem.

You *SHOULD* get your money on your first pay check, which if you start mid-August, should be end of August (a 1/2 month) if your school is on the ball.

Otherwise, as was my case, I got a big payment at the end of Sept, which amounted to 1.5 months pay and housing allowance.

You pay at the end of the month includes allowance. If it does not, talk to your school's accountant. If they are not being helpful, talk to the EMB.

Also, for the advance (if you apply for it) should be given to you within a week of your start date. Some schools do it in 2 payments or they wait for you to ask. When I arrived in August 2003, I was given a check for $28000 first and then, a couple of weeks later, another check for the remainder.

I have been lucky in that I have not had much trouble with my school paying me when and what they should. It's YOUR money...don't be afraid to ask WTF is going on.

Good luck!
