Now I guess its up to me to choose which ef school i want and where.

please advise me on which are the 3 most reputable schools in the indonesian ef network, in terms of integrity and the quality of the teacher's experience there.

My other priority is to go somewhere where theres not an incredible amount of pollution, preferably somewhere where there will be wilderness nearby.

thanks very much
Wink

Since it's unlikely that any one teacher has worked at three different EF schools in Indonesia, I don't think you'll get too many helpful replies.

Then avoid all schools within a couple hours drive of Jakarta.

Most EFs are in big cities, which in Indonesia equals noise and pollution of all kinds.

However, there are some very pleasant schools, such as EF Bogor or EF Bandar Lampung, which are off the beaten track. I'd give them a try, but you rarely hear of vacancies in either of these schools. Both EF schools in Bandung are OK, but it's a big city and getting more traffic by the day. The climate and people are OK. Maybe Winmar might join in with some comments.

You could also try EF Kalimalang. Their regular advert is in Dave's pages once again, but I cannot make any suggestions. The DoS (Greg) is a good guy, so why not give it a try also.

Why not just not apply for a job at an EF school? There are loads of others in Indonesia. EF is easy to find because they advertise a lot and on the known web sites. There are many better options out there - just spend time doing research and you will find. If you were a chef looking for a job in Indonesia, would you apply to work at McDonald's? No, you'd want to work at some classy little number with a good reputation. So take your time, and get a job with a decent school.

try tbi

email your application to [email protected]

check out http://www.tbi.co.id/

they have schools in Bogor, Malang and Bandung. These are far better cities to live in than Jkt.

i have had a few offers from EF as well in Jkt. It seems like they have a high demand for teachers now or a high turnover rate, or both. Either way i will be working there in April in Jkt and am happy about the opportunity. You can only do so much from overseas so its better to take what you have been offered and go from there once you arrive.. Trust in your self Very Happy

I would give the British Institute a try though, if I were you. The thing with arriving and taking it from there, is that it's a big hassle. Much better to get a good job lined up. Not such a hard thing to do with email. Once you're KITASsed up (work permitted) with EF, it could be difficult for you to change schools (if you find something more attractive) before the 1 year contract is up, depending on the owner of the school. Some can make life difficult if you break a contract, others are cooler. Also, ask yourself why EF has such a high turnover of teachers.

I politely refused an offer from EF a few months ago. Couldn't get excited about $700 a month, shared housing and, most significantly, a chain that seems to have the highest teacher turnover ever known.

Recently sent an application through to TBI and had the standard "we may have positions available soon" response. They did mention that applicants have to fly to Jakarta at their own expense for interview - is this normal? (guess I could always nip over to Bali for a holiday if they didn't like me Cool )

Any other suggestions about good schools in Indo from those in the know, please? I have a BA, CELTA, 3 years experience, 5 months volunteer teaching in Bali and pretty good Bahasa Indonesia, for what it's worth... Smile
I'd love to go back, but not to work with EF, they're scary... Shocked
