Hi, i'm abit off-topic here:

I am planning to attend a japanese language program in Japan for three months in the summer. I am planning on going with one of those giajin-realtors (e.g. Sakurahouse, etc.) to find accomodation for the stay. I think this way makes more economical sense than signing up for one of those $4k accomodation-included language study programs. Could anyone
suggest a good japanese language program, oher than waseda and sophia? Also, my first choice would be to study in Kansai, but the gaijin-realty companies don't seem to be in that area.

Thanks

How much does it cost a month to rent an apartment in Japan? I mean if I wanted to take a summer language class as well. I do not mean for a one year contract.

Rents depend on size of the apartment, and area and most places that are not got through an employer require a large key-money deposit. Your best bet for short-term rentals is a gaijin hostel with private rooms and shared facilities. No key money and rent is paid weekly or monthly and is about 50,000-60,000 yen a month in Kansai for a private room.

there are probably student apartments around but for a one room apartment you may be paying as little as 30-40,000 yen a month depending on room quality and location.

Leo Palace offers apartments with rents paid by the month but total rent must be paid up-front for the term of the lease contract.

Thanks, Paul. Do you know where I might be able to find student housing via the web? Leo Palace seems the easiest way to go, but because I am looking for accomodation for 3 months exactly, the least expensive is Y102,000/month -- I think. I was hoping for something in the Y80,000 range. Also, other than the university affiliated language schools, have you heard of any decent-to-good schools in Osaka or Kobe? Do I have to go to a college/uni affiliated Japanese language school to get student housing as an option? I'd prefer not to share a washroom with anyone.

I dont know about student housing but the Kansai Flea Market has a lot of housing ads with contact numbers for agents

http://www.kfm.to

One of them was an agent that helps foreigners with short term and long term housing needs

Osaka International House will probably have a register of accomodation and hostels

Im not a student so I couldnt tell you about getting student housing through the language schools but I I have seen ads for about half a dozen japanese language schools in Osaka and Kobe. Do you need the websites? Maybe they will tell you if they can arrange accomodation.
