Sorry to say this as I usually respect the job that the moderators do. But a word of advice for the Japan moderators - please don`t be so precious. I am thinking of emailing Dave and drawing his attention to the locking of the Friendships with Japanese thread. Mr Kalgushi`s rationale is very difficult to understand here.
I enjoyed reading that thread and contributed a message that was sympathetic to the Japanese way of thinking. Other posters had interesting observations to make and NOBODY needs so called time to `breathe` and apparently get over our `inflammatory` comments.
One poster used an abbreviation for the Japanese that is not in my opinion good to use and is not acceptable to me, although I think to call it racist may be misundertanding the way in which shortening words is very much part of the English langiage. However, apart from that I was enjoying reading the debate about why it is difficult for westerners to understand their Japanese friends and acquaintances.
I really enjoy eslcafe and appreciate the work of ALL the moderators, including Mr Kalgushi. But the posters in no way approach the ill manners and unncessary comments of some of the posters in gaijinpot, for example. So my request is please do not be so precious Mr K and other moderators, and put more effort into recognising what is genuinely inflammatory and unhelpful, and what is really a legitimate expression of people`s varying viewpoints.
If you cannot understand or handle legitimate debate then I suggest you don`t put what is undoubtedly your valuable time into thwarting the eslcafe contributor`s enjoyment of diversity of opinions. |

Cafebleu.
Sorry, but I don't think you saw the reason the thread was locked. Sunpower was quite incensed at the critique of his word choices and replied bitterly with a two word response which is not acceptable. I do not believe that the moderators are discouraging debate but rather, encouraging civilized debate. |

Yes, you did. I am now unlocking the thread to hopefully have everyone engage in the kind of debate you, I and the majority of members come here to participate in or simply read.
Enjoy. |
