Very Happy Poor old 'British' - he's losing friends, respect and his grasp on reality. I almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

Nice work Chief Inspector Ben.

You know what I find remarkable? British's profound need to pass himself as British. Why? I think the West has done a number on the rest of the world especially on the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans who have romanticised English and Western culture to such a degree that it has become almost pathological. One has to admit, in the case of British, this is pretty unhealthy.

One example: When I was in Korea I regularly saw women with eye patches. At first I thought they had a fetish about pirates but then again I was kind of buzzed at the time as my powers of perception were highly suspect. Laughing Then I found out that many of them were having plastic surgery to make their eyes round, more European like. After that I always paid attention to females blinking. I could often see the nice cut on the upper eyelid.

Hi Deconstructor,

Just wanted to tell you I love the line at the bottom of your posts.

And I noticed one of my first year high school girls had the scars, too. I was more than a little surprised.

I also recently read of a young woman committing suicide recently after suffering from an unsuccessful job she had done to her eyes here in Japan.

Enjoy yourself,

Yeesh...eye surgery to make them round? I though I'd seen enough with a product in Mexico called "White Secret" (they use the English name.) This is a skin cream to make skin whiter, a la Michael Jackson.

Ben,

I knew it couldn't be true. I knew British's pen was tainted.

Great job. Very Happy

By the way, British is kind of silent through all this, ain't he?

I would like to know how Japanese students can study English for 3 years in junior high school and not have a clue regarding the use of the verb "to be"?

Experience. Where I teach, we have students who try to pass off things they've copied from the Internet as their own creations. Fortunately, it doesn't happen often.

If you use a general search engine such as http://www.dogpile.com and enter the first several words -- in this case, You know what I hate? Grammar. Grammar is second only to spelling -- the search engine will usually find it if it's posted somewhere on the Internet.

Know what?? I think British got drunk and dropped his attitude by accident back there. And now he's come back to reality, he's feverishly covering his back....

He even wrote some coherent things on other forums (sorry, I haven't got clue how to use the quote function, but if you do an "all posts" search on him, you'll see what I mean...), so his little "cut and paste" suggestion doesn't convince me....

Apparently teaching kids basic grammar does not increase writing ability.

What do you think? Personally i think that grammar should be taught from an early age. I believe that not learning grammar is like (horrible cliche coming up) building a house without the foundations.

I have also found it a lot easier to learn Spanish after teaching English for a while because i now understand what grammar means. i.e When i started teaching myself Spanish my grammar book said things like:

'the perfect tense is used for blah blah blah'

'adjectives should agree with the noun'

The more i understand English grammar the easier i find it to understand foreign language grammar.

If learning English grammar helps English people with a foreign language later in life then so much the better i reckon.

Matt...your thread I reckon

British Punchbag,

Not a very clever way of attempting to cover your tracks. Most people if they copy and paste something - tend to put the source or reference. But then again, they're not trolls. Remember! People who live or come from outside of China can think for themselves - they have deduction, intuition and imagination. We can see through you. You are transparent.

Not really jealous, more a case of feeling sympathy for your plight. Besides there's nothing good on TV at the moment. CCTV actually stands for China Central Television - I thought it meant Communist Controlled.

Correct. None of us are real. You are actually asleep in your Chinese classroom, in a typical display of lethargy and arrogance. Your head is resting on your textbook while one of your fingers is embedded up your nose in a pose of serene beauty. You are having a terrible dream and all of us here are part of that dream. Soon you will be woken up by your mobile phone, as yet again you haven't mastered the ability to power it off. Or you're just extremely rude and selfish.

Where's your Chinese boss? Ripping somebody off or arranging extra English tuition for you?

I love talking to you. You're being ripped to shreds, you're our resident punchbag and you're pure entertainment.

Not long ago on the Newbie Forum you said "There is more to life than a computer". So why are you still here?
