I heard a rumor that NET, because it is in dire need of teachers, now doesn't care if you have a B.Ed, only insisting that you have x years experience and then a CELTA or other teaching certificate. Is that right? |

I just checked the website. There's no mention of any changes to the requirements. |

When the scheme first started, there were different levels of requirements, and it was possible to be a NET with a degree and a recognisd EFL/ESL qualification. It was ok to be an ELTA(English Language teaching assistant) with only an EFL/ESL qualifiction...and both were doing basically the same job. THEN they upped the qualifictions as supply for the positions grew. Now it seems that because of problems on the scheme they cannot recruit enough teachers. It will not hurt anyone with experience or qualifications to apply now..it may well lead to an interview. |

I applied before the changes occurred. I turned them down because I thought the school I was at was good at the time and offered me a longer-term opportunity. The EMB kept my application on file. Last year, it started to go really downhill at the school. I emailed the administrator that I dealt with before both last year and again this year. She told me "you must have a PC.Ed, B.Ed. or a PGDE". So I would be surprised if the rules have changed, but in the spirit of Chinese New Year, I wish the rest of you luck. |
