We all know what a hassle it can be exchanging dong for dollars in Vietnam (GROAN...), but what about the airport? Can one change dong into, say, US dollars or Thai baht? Has anyone done this?
(DISCLAIMER: This may seem like a stupid question, especially to those who haven't lived in Vietnam, but trust me, one never knows around here...) |

Sure can. I flew out of HCMC about three months ago and saw my wife's uncle trade Dong into USD at a booth right outside the entrance doors to the airport. Be advised though; they charged him a bit more for this convenience. But he didn't have much of a choice since it was somewhat of an emergency. I'm sure they'll trade USD for Dong as well but I don't know about other currencies. |

Not sure about the hassle. There are official money changers in district one near the Opera House.

Yes, but make sure you change before you check in. Once you get through immigration there are no places to exchange anything. Also, dong is nonconvertible in Thailand. |
