It can be if you develop yourself professionally.
By that, I mean if you do not have a B.Ed, teaching certificate or related graduate degree, you should think about doing one or more these to give you a leg up.
With the right education and work experience I think you could have an enjoyable and lucrative career teaching in Asia and other parts of the world.
But in order to make have a crack at the best teaching jobs, you'll more than likely need to have the right mix of education and experience. |
There is no future in ESL teaching. I did it for ten years and enjoyed it but feel that I am ten years behind all my friends at home in terms of savings, careers, family etc. I am now teaching primary school in Australia. The job benefits are so much better here teaching in Australia. I don't plan on ever going back overseas, unless it was to an international school where the benefits were comparable to what I get here. Forget ESL teaching. It's a dead-end road
I agree, and this is why my long term plan is to go back to the UK, probably after another year in China, do my Primary teaching qualifications, and get a job in the UK (not in ondon though where the pay isn't really enough) before hopefully getting a job in HK or an international school.
I don't regret coming here, as I was in a rut before, but at the same time its not a long term thing, no way. |
