Which would you like to see stopped or changed?
I think changing the rule that junior and senior high school girls have to wear a dress in freezing cold weather is most important to stop.

Which Japanese custom would you like to see change? Junior and senior high schools girls having to wear a dress even when the weather is cold and snowing! Or men looking at porn on the train

I don't care about men looking at porn. I just look the other way. But every time I see some poor girl shivering cold because her legs are bare I feel pity for her. Junior and senior high school girls should not be forced to wear a dress in freezing cold weather. I asked one high school girl she in turned asked me, "Isn't it sexy!"
"No," I had replied, "because I am cold wearing pants so you must really be cold. If anything, I feel sorry for you!" I then wondered, what kind of self-esteem is this rule installing in these young girls!

Being able to put the gomi out the night before. They pick up the gomi at 7 or 7:30 am and on my days off I often don't make it in time and have to wait another week or 2 to try it again. Then I sometimes drive it down to another spot in my car. Not a big gripe, but a pain in the @ss. On the few times I have tried to put it out the night before, one of the gomi Nazis yells at me and crosses her arms. Makes me feel like being a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

I think neither should be changed! I like looking at porn, and I really like looking at high school girls legs in freezing cold weather!

Big John Stud gives the correct answer above.

I'd like to see the introduction custom, where people ask your acquaintance about you, while you're standing right there, change.

For example, "Where is your friend from? Why did he decide to come to Japan?" I feel like a toddler or a pet, when this is done. I wish they would just ask me directly.

Oyajis sucking air through their teeth right before they say something must be changed.

I don't really care about girls having to wear a dress in feezing cold weather, because it puts them in their place. However, I care even less about men looking at porn in a train.

What I would like to see change is the custom of once married, the man is suppose to give all his money to his wife. Then the wife in turns gives the husband a little bit of money to live on until the next pay day.
Most Japanese women do not know how to handle money, because most Japanese women live a sheltered life with her mommy and daddy taking care of her. She never had to handle finances of any kind. Then she get married and all of a sudden she expects to be able to handle the money. And try to say no, and most likely your marriage will end in a divorce!

I thought it was so strange that girls don't wear tights under their dresses. I think is must be forbibben or something. I always wear tights with skirts in winter. I also feel bad for those girls. Their legs look blue it's so cold!

Junior and senior high school girls are not allowed to wear tights or anything under the dresses! I am glad finally to have someone agree with me. I think making these young girls wear only a dress on cold days is cruel!

As an ex-Catholic schoolgirl, I did not get a break on the skirt in the winter. However, we had the good since to put on a pair of sweats under the skirts until we got to school. After school, they go right back on. No rules against that. On the tights thing, that's just wrong!

What do you mean the tight thing is just wrong? Wrong to wear or wrong to have a rule not allowing girls to wear tights?

I went to a Catholic grade school! The sisters at that Catholic school I went to were sadistic! They would lie, and beat students.

Around here, many school girls (at least the ones in Jr. High) wear anything they want UNTIL they get to school -- and that includes tights, hose, sweats, etc... Bizzare thing is, I KNOW they cannot wear that stuff once at school, yet, they will put on tights under their skirts but their knee-socks over top of the tights.... Must be quite a pain in the butt to change in/out of that when they get to school.

Most Sr. high school girls here brave the weather (especially the ones that purposely hem their skirts about 10cm way too high) although I've seen many of them wear jogging pants underneath (or at the very least, long gym shorts).

Also, if gym is in their first period, they are certainly allowed to wear their gym uniforms to school to avoid having to change right away -- though it doesn't help much wearning shorts.

I get to see this bizzare array of alternatively-attired students every morning on my way to work, as I pass by no less than 3 different schools.

As for men reading porn on the train.... That's just fine by me -- it makes it all that much easier to pick out the sickos so I can recognize their perverted faces and I know who to avoid.

P.S. Gordon: My 3 rules to an easy, happy, gomi-free existence. 1. I never write my name/address on my gomi bag... 2. I never leave incriminating gomi IN the bag (e.g. envelopes with my name/address on them) because gomi Nazis WILL sift through bags of trash to dtermine their owner... 3. I always dump my trash AFTER the gomi Nazis have gone to bed (that's not hard to do). I just do it after I come home from a night at the bar.

Regarding driving habits, no tail-gating.

Regarding pedestrians, dezombify.

Regarding teachers, make a difference.

Regarding smokers, quit.

Regarding students, study.

Regarding most people, smile more.

Regarding all, enjoy!

Okay now you and Gordon got me curious! At the risk of sounding ignorant I must ask: What is a gomi?
