I may consider reapplying, but it's such a hassle, and I loathe having to obtain transcripts from colleges. Though, I have no qualms about being an "English Assistant" or "Aid." Interestingly enough, my mother is an ESL teacher and has been for over 10 years. She doesn't have a degree, has never attended college, and does not possess any type of certification. I applied to the Peace Corps a year or two ago and was in line to teach English in another country, much like JET or other similiar program. However, I was told that because of my grade point average, I wasn't qualified, under their current rules, to teach English. Instead, I was qualified to build huts and educate foreigners about the dangers of AIDS. However, more schooling means more money, and I can't afford to continue attending college without proper funding...and that's like searching for a needle in a haystack.

This thread is making me so jealous. "I took Japanese in college" "The class would be in the Linguistics Dept" "TESL courses" It's being brought home to me again just how craptacular the university I went to really was. Urrgg!
Sorry, my fit of b*tching and moaning are over. I feel much better now.

Shiggy, it is not so hard to get an MA paid for if you have a decent GPA but since your GPA was too low to teach English with the Peace Corps, I am guessing you are out of luck. I have read that people on here have worked with ESL programs for American colleges and universities and got the traditional TA stipend and their tuition paid for. So it is possible to get your MA paid for. I am currently finishing my MA in German and everything is paid for.
