Two friends and are planning to travel to Thailand in the near future (we currently are living in Korea) in hopes of finding some jobs. I found one but the money seems quite discouraging, only 20000 baht a month. Is this amount the norm?
Also, since I have your attention, a few more questions. With this salary, is it possible to save any money if your lifestyle involves partying a minimum of twice a week.
Third, is it possible to attain private lessons in Thailand?
Last, is Bankok a bad place to teach? I usually return home intoxicated Friday and Saturday nights, I have no fear in Korea. Is Bankok similiar? |

Not really. These jobs exist but represent the low end of the scale. I assume that you realize that 20K baht is only about 500 USD. 30 - 35K is closer to the norm, but that's still not a lot of money, about 780 - 910 USD.

Probably not. The cost of living has gone up a lot in Bangkok in the past number of years. Party people on teacher's salaries are usually broke before or by the end of the month. Generally Bangkok is regarded as a place to have a good time, not save.

Yes, it is.

If you mean dangerous, generally no, it's not a bad place. You'll probably make it home in one piece, i.e. Thais are usually not violent unless you're looking for a fight [definitely not recommended - everybody including the chicks know Muay Thai].
Also, look for jobs when you get to Thailand. That will increase your chances of landing a better job. And go in late April after the Thai New Year. Also, read through the posts on the Thailand part of this forum. Most of your questions have already been answered numerous times. |
