I think in general knowledge of computers and their software is abysmal in Japan. Most of the employees I've come across have no idea what they are selling, but this could be because it is a big box computer store. I often get the same "customer service" in Future Shop in Canada where the employees haven't got a clue about the products. The best service is by going to a small computer store where the employees are more professional (and the prices are higher).

What annoys me the most about shopping in Japan is when you ask if they have something and they never say "no". They just look around for hours while you stand there waiting. I'm not offended if the store doesn't have what I want, but tell me and don't waste my time. Now, if they don't come back in 4 mins I walk out of the store.

Gordon: I hear you.. But being an Ex-Future-Shop computer salesman... Let me say that MOST of the guys in our dep't were real geeks. They were very well educated in computer-related matters.....

The training that we received when we first joined F-S was pretty extensive too. I agree, there tends to be a lack of knowledge sometimes... but there shouldn't be..

Of all the stores, I think I've gotten the best technical answers from F-S staff..... But also the worst too...

I found London Drugs really good, but after I got their advice, I went back to Future Shop to buy it. I should feel ashamed of myself, but I'm not.
You know when I went into FS, I usually looked for the geekiest looking guy to help me.
