"A" and "I" are words and sounds. "U" is a sound, but if yo u spell it "you", it is also a word.
Same for "B/be/bee", "C/see/sea/si", "G/gee", "J/jay", "O/oh", "P/pee", "R/are", "T/tea/tee", and "Y/why".
Gee, this is so cool!
The point, Jim? None. |

Ok.... But if you're going to katakanize, make sure you use proper modified Hepburn...
There are no "tu" and "th" sounds in Japanese. Just "to" or "tsu" and "da" or "za", respectively.
mai katto no buresu sumeruzu raiku katto fuudo.

Jim I hate to be picky, but if you include Japanese no (of) you are translating the sentence using Japanese (instead of Katakana-izing into English) and would need Japanese word order as "no" is not the English "no" but the Japanese "of".
My cat, "No Breath" smells like cat food.
Not only that I think the katakana of cat is not katto (sounds like Kato) but kyatto. |

Zed is what Brits call the letter "Z".
"Zee" is what Americans call the letter "Z".
Yeah, OK, so Americans have a different way of doing things. So what ?
You're not going to make 270 million Americans and umpteen million English students change to saying "zed" just because you've posted a complaint on Dave's ESL cafe. (No offense Dave, but if y'had THAT kind of power, I'd see what you could do about undoing a recent American election before you turn your attention to the "Z" controversy.) |

"Z" is a letter of the alphabet. How it is pronounced (Zee/Zed) is called a phoneme, (or a minimum unit of language to get technical).
B is a letter, "Buh" is a phoneme if you get my drift. There are often several sounds or phonemes for the same letter. |
