- Just come back from teaching in South america and it's impossible to not notice all the talk about the invasion of the immigrants etc...
Well where are the jobs to teach them then as I have not seen one job advert?

I get the idea that the government is now requiring many of them to learn English in order to get benefits etc.. but where?
I have a Celta but no degree - I also have 6 months worth of Tefl references - am I in a good postition to get a job? (I think not)

I imagine somewhere in the UK they are crying out for Tefl desperados to work for low wages to teach the immigrants - is this the case - or am I better off going back to a 3rd world country to look for work?

- kind of a strange irony really - I guess if most of us were to swap nationalities with say the Turks or the Thais all our labour problems would be solved -
hey maybe I should become the Home Secretary -guess that pays better than doing tefl........

Well, I'm sure that if, like my Thai and Turkish students, you were to accept long hours at minimum wage in some kitchen you'd have no problems getting a job.

Alternatively, try your local FE college.

These jobs are in FE Colleges/Adult Education Centres, basically any institution run by the local Council. If you can bear working for the government then go for it. I'd take the second option, go back to a 3rd world country and live like a king. Though you could take a job in (1st world) London for 3rd world wages.

-I have tried that in the past after one of my financialy rewarding overseas tefl positions - coming back to the Uk I had to find just any job - couldn't get taken on as a washer - up because I am white !

so to make a comment on the 'can I get a job in Tefl if I am not a native white english speaker'.- basically I would say you are going to find it difficult but you do at least have the advantage in the Kitchen porter line of work - the pay is about the same AND you sometimes get free food (or at least can stuff the odd pack of bacon under your trousers)!
When did you last get such a good bonus ?

What possessed you to return to Modern Britain ? Only place in the world where a GP can murder 250 of his patients before anyone notices !

I think the patients noticed, but like everyone else, probably, after the event?

I still cannot see the attraction of working in the UKofGB&NI for not much more than minimum wage.
