Hank Peters

You are looking at the Puiching Middle School rather than Puiching Commercial College.

Puiching Commercial College otherwise known as Peizheng Commercial College is currently advertising on Dave's Esl Cafe ( check Peizheng ).

Wages are between 6-8.500 per month.

The school is located at Huadu which is 1 hour from Guangzhou.

Send me a PM for further information.

Yaco,

You're right. I did see the ad on eslcafe. Thanks for the help!

Darkchild and grizzlies03,

It's good to know that there are other Asians teaching English in China. But I am curious to know why you are willing to go through the hassle to teach in China, when there are so many other opportunites in Latin America that would not discrimate against you for being Asian. I am only looking into China because I have a fiance there. If not for that, I wouldn't even consider it.

Hank,
When I first came to China I worked with another teacher who was Chinese-American. One thing he had a problem with was that the Chinese administration tried to make him work the hours of the Chinese staff instead of the foreign teacher hours. When you secure employment and begin work make sure to put your foot down if they try anything like that. The teacher I was referring to stood strong and after that incident, he was treated like everyone else. Good luck in your job hunt.

Roger: That was me. About a year ago. I am teaching in Guangzhou now, but it hasn't been the easiest of rides.

Hankpeters: I'm a Chinese Canadian. When I asked about this topic last year, there were very few responses, so it's great to see so many more people like us on this board now who have gotten a job in Chihna.
I think that schools that are in the middle of no where, poorer schools and non-private schools are more likely to hire a Chinese English Foreign Teacher. I'm teaching at a government school and now that someone has mentioned it, I *think* I am being paid less than foreign looking teachers of similar qualifications. I have been "warned" of not acting too Chinese, or else I'll be treated like one. While I have never been ill-treated, I have never truely felt like I'm seen as a foreigner here. Especially when I want something done. I can speak Cantonese (and learing Putonghua), if I ever need anything done with my department, they just ask me to do it myself.
In my job search, it is the private teaching businesses and private schools (i.e. expensive tuition fees) who reject me.
Ah well, I trod on. I'm currently looking for a school to teach at in September. I keep my eyes peeled for you and you for me? Very Happy
Feel free to PM me. Smile
BTW, there is an OBC (Overseas Born Chinese) club here in Guangzhou. You are welcome to join when you come! Very Happy
Kat. Smile

Generally speaking, Chinese judge you by your appearances rather than anything else, but it might still work out for you. Since your fiance is in Guangzhou, I suggest you try Puiching School in Huadu outside of Guangzhou. This is a school that in the past used to hire up to 60 FTs of every conceivable hue and ethnic background.
Where is yaco when we are in need of him?

I can give a few suggestions about schools that hire non-Caucasian native English speakers, without penalty re dough or other conditions.
Please PM me if you want.
P S I don't know much about Southern China - just NE.

I'm asian... and I've been working in one of the government universities in the northeast for a bit more than five years now...

Indeed, they have bias and racial prejudice, but once you've proven your worth, they'll walk an extra mile with you... i've been treated equally so far..

If you need info on Universities in the Northeast that can possibly hire asian or asian-american, asian-blahblahblah... you can IM me and i'll give a list and contact info.. no strings attached... Laughing
