What the hell are recruiters wanting with six passport photos?
I've read two different adds today at Dave's asking for six photos.
One for China and the other for Turkey..

I don't mind sending 'a passport photo' but any recruiter who asks
for six is a %$#! nutbag!

My 2 cents.

Maybe they play teacher poker or teacher happy families with them?

Every time I need a passport photo I need at least two. It's probably just the beauracracy in their country. One for their files, two for the letter of invitation, two for the permission to hire a foreigner, one to round it off.

6 does seem a little excessive, though, I'll admit.

Six is a pretty small amount. For the Gulf think of bringing a couple of dozen.

You can never have too many passport-size photos.

So far I have had to provide (over the past few years) about three dozen. Every government agency here wants at least two. And here, the background color and head position are considered critical. Off a bit on either and fuggeddabouddit! Some officious little clerk will dump you out of the line you have been in for 3 hours.
Best bet: find out complete requirements; get the correct shot; load photos on disk and transfer to laptop C-drive; print out supplies as/when needed on photo printer paper. (You need a decent color printer, which is not expensive).
Six is nothing!

Six photos doe not seem terribly excessive. Here in China that seems about right. We have a local Government Education office that recently requested all teacher photos and paperwork, in addition to the requirements of the PSB.

If I were to do it again, I'd take at least a dozen. They are after all, small, light and relatively inexpensive.

I agree. Six is not excessive. Six, in some countries, is a bare minimum. And you will need more when you get there. We even needed some extras when some officious official decided to audit our official documents and wanted more for his files. Have lots made and carry a digital copy so you can print more.

If having to have six passport photos is sending you into a tizzy, you will not do well with the paperwork demands of many countries. If you stop the process to try and understand the reasons behind it you won't get more than a block down the street, let alone to another country.

Prepare for the worst (have lots of copies ready)
Expect the best (they won't even ask)
Accept what comes (hand over what is asked for)
and Move on.

I am quite aware that going through passport photos is a reality. I
only thought it was odd that to APPLY for a job they wanted six of them.

When I first started I clicked out a roll of 36 photos of varying sizes on 35mm film. Those are long gone and I think I'm on my 3rd such roll. I just have a friend take the photos at varying distances from my face with a white background and at different levels of dress and cheerieness.

One of these years I'll invest in a digital camera Laughing

You always need them for visa extensions, bus passes, applications, library cards, security passes, etc.

Also if they're recruiters they have to send your photo to 1 or more schools, don't they?

Expect to supply more photos when you get there. All the ones that seemily got lost in a black hole will catch up with you in the next world Rolling Eyes
