My sister has a new boy friend who has just begun working in Kuwait for a building company and he is trying to convince her to move over with him. He claims that he can secure her a job before she goes and from reading some of the posts on the board, I imagine she would have separate housing through her employer. Our family is scared to death. She has never traveled abroad before and is doing this for financial reasons and because she thinks she is in love. She has known this guy for about three months and he is telling her that she can make $150,000 in a year. To tell you a little about her, she is a blond haired blue eyed Texas girl that is very attractive and I think very niave. Could I get some comments about how you think a single 25 year old woman would like living and working in Kuwait and if you think it would be safe. I appreciate any comments you might give me. Thanks...John

She will not make $150,000, if she makes $50,000 she would be doing well. While Kuwait is reasonably safe, Things could change any time. I would advise anyone to wait and see what happens in the next few months. Threats have been made and we are on a high state of alert at present. It would be better to wait and see how things develop over the next few months.

This is probably one of the most ridiculous lines I've heard from a man in many a year. There is absolutely no job that I know of that a 25 year old female could walk into that would make money like that... unless this fellow plans to be her pimp - to be graphic.

I can not think of any job a woman of this age and limited experience could get that would pay even $50,000.

If there is any possible way you can stop her... do it. Personally if she was my sister, I would have her committed before I would allow her to meet up with this man. He is obviously a liar and may likely be a criminal.

I have to say that I agree with VS. As a single woman living in Kuwait, I face many problems with men on a DAILY basis. The men in this region just don't understand how to interact with women. They follow women at all times of the day... I've even been followed at 6:30 in the morning on my way to the grocery store. That day, I actually had to ask the store manager to help me. When the guy tried to follow me inside the market, he was stopped by security. Yes there is a security threat against westerners, but I'd be worried about your sister's personal safety (especially since you said she's kind of naive). But as VS suggested, women have the possibility of making lots of money in other ways. However, I'm one of those women who likes to make money on my feet, not off them!!! Rolling Eyes

Oh, sure, she can make $150,00 a year. Even if she only works three nights a week.

A lot of westerners I know in Kuwait are leaving. They simply don't feel safe anymore. I'm usually all for adventure, but I think your sister might want to rethink this one.

($150,000? Gosh, I must be doing something wrong. Could you give me your sister's boyfriend's contact info? I'd like to get in on some of that money. Rolling Eyes)

First, the two of them cannot live together because it is illegal for unmarried couples to live together. Second, unless she has DOD clearance, speaks prefect Arabic and English and doesn't mind being a translator in IRAQ, she is not going to make $150,000 a year.

I am also a tall, blonde-haired blued-eyed woman. But I am not naive. I lived in a Crip neighborhood when going to school in LA. The violence towards Western women is minimal. It is just constant harressment that one has to put up with. I used to get followed all the time. I haven't had this problem since I gained 690 pounds. NO I'm joking.

Presumably the reason that you don't get followed anymore is that you can no longer walk? Arabs like zaftig women. Laughing
