If you would like to see something special about this country, I would suggest heading over to the main Cathedral of just about any Mexican city. With the Pope's health rapidly failing, this country seems wrapped up in grief, as an expression of Mexicans' deep feelings towards the head of the Catholic church.
There was an incorrect radio report yesterday that the Pope had died. The news had brought my wife to tears...and she isn't a particularly devout Catholic. I find it interesting to see how much love there is in this country for the man. The next few days are sure to be a sight to see for this atheist foreigner. |

Went down to the cafeteria today to find the TV there has been on showing the vigil at the Vatican since early this morning.
Im not Catholic either but its kinda sad... the end of an era. I never liked JPII but I respected his abilities. |

Thanks for starting this post, Guy.
I'm not a Catholic (or even a Christian), but I was wondering about this very thing last night as I was watching the news on TV Espaa. There wasn't much to tell, apart from the fact that the story that the Pope had died was wrong, but the newsreader and the Italy correspondent were both trying not to cry (sometimes so was I..).
I think no matter how you feel about the church, there is no denying what an impact this man has had around the planet, and from what I've seen, the feeling is very strong in Mexico.
Peace.
