Does anybody have information on working in Thai refugee camps for people fleeing from Myanmar/Burma?
What jobs are availible in these camps? Only teaching English? Or are other positions for people like me - people lacking specialty skills - availible in these camps? Paid or stipend? Where do workers live? Safe or dangerous? How is the food? Who is involved? Both my girlfriend and I want to help out here and work with some refugee all stars.
On another note...who is running the tsunami relief effort? Do these organizations still need full time workers?
Im new to the international travel game, but Ill be arriving in Thailand soon. Thanks for whatever accurate info you can throw my way. PEACE. |

Here's another Myanmar lead for you to check into:
http://www.geocities.com/maesotbvp/ (BVP : Burma Volunteer Program)
If you click on the "Master Index Thailand" sticky at the very top of this forum - and then scroll all the way down to Part II - VOLUNTEER in THAILAND - you'll find a few more links that may be of interest.
Regarding the tsunami relief effort: I'm not exactly sure who's doing what at the moment, but you could E-mail these folks for some info and/or contacts. They could at least point you in the right direction:
http://www.thaitsunami.com/wps/portal (Thailand's Official Tsunami & Disaster Center)
Peace to you too! |
