Saw a job post for VJ Study in Moscow. What does anyone know about teaching in Moscow and does anyone know about this outfit called VJ Study? |

Yes, I worked hourly paid for them just over a year ago for about 6 months or so. Excellent people, very dependable who will go out of their way to help you.
Unless it's changed it's only a small unit in the Olympic Complex, Prospect Mira with about four classroom and a small office. Nice place to work if you want somewhere small and friendly. |

Yosma: How is Moscow today? Is it hostile to Americans, Europeans, or Canadians? Is there anarchy over there?
How long did you work for them? Was the experience worth it? Did you find a job easily when you returned to your country? |

Also did they pay you well? Did you have enough to live on? I see you said you worked for six months there. |

Well Moscow does have a bit of an anarchic feel to it, rather less when I was there in 1994 I would say, but I don't think it's really any more dangerous than London, if that's what you are getting at.
Most Russian xenophobia is directed toward people who don't look like them. Certainly Bush is widely disliked here (as he is in virtually the whole world), and I have had some American teachers tell me that they have to explain that only 51% of Americans voted for him. |

Excuse me, I meant rather less than when I was there in 1994. |

Nothing like anarchy IMHO. Just state mafia and private mafia.
I only worked for VJ hourly paid which meant one or two classes a week, while doing work for other places around town and privately. I think the pay was about the same as all the other schools around town for hourly paid work. If you're thinking of working there full-time then you need to find out what they will offer including housing and visa support. İt's different deal altogether. But as İ said, whatever they offer you you can rest assured that they won't try to jack you out of anything.
BTW İ haven't returned to my home country but İ don't have any regrets about working with VJ. However, you shouldn't look on it as a career move or anything. İt's just teaching a few classes in a small office to help pay for the cost of living in Moscow |
