|
|
I am an Irish citizen, and hold only an Irish passport. I have just received a reply from a school in Indonesia, and they say that because I am Irish, it is not possible to get a work visa or permit for me. Visas will only be granted to people who hold a Uk, US, Australian, NZ, or Canadian passport. They refer to the Indonesian Immigration Department on this.
Why is this? Has anyone else from Ireland had this problem? Is there anyone from Ireland working in Indonesia now?
Maybe i'll have to forget about Indonesia..

Apparently it is true. One of my previous co-workers was Irish - but his mother was born in England, so he was able to get a UK passport. He also had an Irish passport but he had to use the UK one for his work visa.
I've heard stories of Irish passport holders bribing their way through the Immigration, but I'm afraid I know of no details... |

My old boss at EF told me the same thing, so yeah I think it's true. It's because English isn't Ireland's official language, apparently. How ridiculous. |

I have heard the same as well, however there is a job on Dave's Esl board at the moment that says
Quote: |
Please do not apply if you are not from an English Speaking Country (England, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America, Scotland, Ireland, Wales), or are under 25, or do not have a 4 year university diploma, as we will not be able to secure a visa. |
.
Whether GEC English Cente in Pekanbaru aren't aware of this or have found some way around it, I don't know. |
