Jiu Jiang, PRC

Hello there !

I am in urgent need for my usual brand of cologne,as well as an accessory for my electric shaver. As you can imagine, that the dept stores in Jiu Jiang are nothing to rave on about !

A few days ago,I was passing through Shanghai, but had no luck with the dept stores there either.I have also sent an email to the on-line purchase office of David Jones Ltd,in Sydney - but they have advised me that they do not handle orders for o'seas. So,can anyone recommend a good dept store in HK which accepts on-line orders for o'seas-located customers ? If no one knows of a reliable HK store, then what about one in Singapore,or somewhere else in SE Asia - or even in London !

Thank you,

Peter ( [email protected] )

Hello Peter,

I understand your problem - have you tried any FRIENDSHIP STORE? They usually ae department stores specialising in selling imported brand-name proeducts. The Shanghai one is in Beijing Lu (at least it was there when I last visited).
As for HONG KONG, I find SOGO a very good shopping place. It is a Japanese department store which stocks all manner of imported products.
In HK, you will find it in CAUSEWAY BAY, on Hennessy Rd.
There is an exit direct to SOGO from the MTR (the HK underground tube). Alternatively, take a tramway that goes at least as far east as Causeway Bay, North Point or Shaukiwan and watch out on the left-hand side. You will not fail to see the facade (takes about 20 minutes from CENTRAL).

Roger,

Thanks for the info !

I will do a "search" for Sogo's website - hopefully, they'll be able to send me the things I need. During the summer vacation I may be in HK and, thus, will visit Sogo in person.

I'm surprised that there are still "Friendship Stores" in the PRC.I recall reading about them doing the days of Mao - they provided all sorts of goodies for those with "hard" currency, such as the few foreign tourists that ventured into that country at the time,as well as Party bigshots. One would imagine that in the present economic climate, "Friendship Stores" would have become superfluous . But,apparently, that is not the case !

Regards,

Peter
