I've been offered a full time job at a national juniour high school. I did turn it down as I plan to leave Japan. In a casual conversation one of the teachers mentioned that I would receive the same FIVE months bonus as the other teachers. This has certainly got me tempted. I was to shy or maybe too British to ask what the regular monthly salary actually was. I presume that all government schools pay the same. So I am wondering if anybody out there knows what the total annual salary is that I could expect.

Average salary of public high school teachers (based on rank decided by age, qualifications and experience, usually from when you graduated from university)

Thank you very much PaulH. Wow, I was quite surprised at how much the older teachers get, but also at the modest wage that the younger guys make. I guess that it is so typical of Japan though.
I wonder what level I would be put on? 7 years teaching in Japan. 10 years in total. Graduated 15 years ago. I could either be on easy street or making less than the guys at NOVA. I guess I'll just have to be unbritish about it and just ask. Shocked

Mine was based on my age and not experience. I am earning 1.5 million more per year than the previous guy in the post.
