Hi Preston,

Well, I actually work at AKA Koleji: I teach International Baccalaureate maths ... and I'm very happy here.

The staff here are very friendly but, except for the English and maths/science teachers, few speak English. The general director, however, speaks excellent English ... and on the whole, I get on well with him.

To give you an idea of the technology in the school, I'm writing this from the computer in my own classroom, the computer which is connected up to a projector, which I will use in about 25 minute's time for a powerpoint presentation.

There are no discipline problems to speak of. However, the students' level of English is maybe a little lower than that at the Robert's and Ko's of this world.

The salary is OK, but not fantastic. For that reason, I've just accepted an offer to teach maths at MEF International School. However, I certainly have no "sordid goss" on this school: I've enjoyed/am enjoying my time here.

Thanks Crumpy. I was curious about the area too- did you get a free flat with the job? I thought the school looked good but I didn't fancy living in that part of town. Too far from anywhere I'd want to be

Hi Preston,

I didn't take them up on their offer of a free flat, because my wife and I have are own.

The flats they offer to foreign teachers are out in Baheşehir, which is a great place for a family ... but not if you're a single guy wanting a social life. They'll give you an allowance if you want to live elsewhere, but this almost certainly won't cover the full cost of the rent.

By the way, if you were to live somewhere close to Zincirlikuyu, then you could get to school in the morning in about 15 minutes ... that's by the school service bus of course. Add about 10/15 minutes on to that in the evening.
