It was the fault of the school where the South African worked. They told him that they were 'taking care of the papers' - when truth was they did nothing. The school Admin. should have paid the fine, not the South African, who was doing everything right. Talk about an appalling travesty of justice. Of course in Turkey these kinds of things are commonplace.

When you are not sure the school is telling the truth, just make sure you at least renew your tourist visa every 90 days. But in the case of the South African, his situation was somewhat different, because he already had a work permit from his previous job. He could not change status. A bad situation to be in.

The school DID pay his airticket and salary even though he was sacked before his contract finished. What more does he want? He lost the school a heap load of customers and he moaned the whole time he was here about not being able to trust Turks. If he didn't trust them, why didn't he inquire personally about his work permit?
