I've been perusing all the different forums here on Dave's site and I've come to the conclusion that the content of the posters is a very good reflection of the working conditions in each country.

As for this one, it is obvious that teachers in Japan have a whole lot of free time on their hands. It could be both good or bad, depending on how you look at it.

What is the point of this thread? I think readers can see it coming across to incite a flaming debate as opposed to discussing something prevalent to the Industry here.

I think OP was just posting an observation that passed through his/her head, nothing more, nothing less. No need to read a whole lot into every single post. IMHO.

Interesting. However the China and Korea forums have aloot of posts per day compared to this one..Where the Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong forums don't have so much. Maybe another factor is that most people go on these types of forums to complain? Those forums that have less posters could mean that they either don't have time to complain or there's not much to complain about :lol:

There is no point to be made in this thread. It is just an observation.

I find the titles of most threads to be very interesting but when I delve into them I am often disappointed by the hijackers in the post. The "Life becomes Japan...how is it?" thread is a prime example. PaulH and Malcom you ought to spend more time with your family I reckon, mate, y'all, yeah, eh?

As for maintaining talk about the "industry", which BTW I find is an interesting term for what I would prefer to call "English education" but it seems to become more and more industrious every year, doesn't it?

I don't want to point fingers, but the majority of posts, especially those made by current teachers in Japan, are completely off-topic with regards to teaching.

BUT, I think I've proven my point in that so many people have responded in such a short time since the original post. Thanks.

Again, I agree with you. I think the OP's intentions are not good at all. A bit insulting/condescending. Using the number of replies as validation of his point is just plain silly. I reply quickly because I have free internet access at school and plenty of breaks, plus internet access at home. Too much time on my hands? Nope. It has taken me all of three minutes to read this thread and respond.

As far as posts not being directly related to teaching--there is far more to living in Japan, or any foreign country, than just teaching. Things like how to find apartments, how to meet people, how to find non-Japanese items, etc. are all relevant to life here. We are not merely teachers; we are people trying to cope in different environments.

Paul will be busy aswell, he has a very important job controlling SampainP8 posts. So as for to much time, no we we're all busy with our special jobs and social life.
