Hello,
I'm in Beijing, it's 6:50pm Thursday, and I can't access that website. Can anyone else?
If so, can you post the full ad (unless the OP gave it all). Thank you, Voldermort, for the information!

It won't open from here in HK, so it's not just you.

It's at the Friendship Hotel on Sunday. Just hop into a taxi and say Youyi Fangdian and that will get you there.

The link for the website is www.chinajob.com and not chinajob.com as somebody stated earlier. Chinajob.com is for a GMS service unrelated to the website.

I am also having difficulties opening the page now. It may be a simple reason due to too many people trying to use the server. Perhaps I should have posted the full details, I appologise for that.

Yes, the website it's not working for me also and I'm in Beijing.

The hotel is in the Haidian District. If you are in the east then catch the subway to Xizhimen and then catch a taxi for 10 kuai at the most.

Here is the address:

Youyi Fangdian
Bai Shi Qiao Lu, Beijing, China

Yep, it was a bust. Each representative mimicked the next: "4000/month, free housing, 18-22hrs/week". If you're in China already, you have this, and are looking for something better. I don't think anyone, prospect or recruiter, left extremely satisfied. Still, if I hear of another fair, I'd probably go. So thanks for the heads up.

I've searched job positions for an overseas friend almost daily on www.chinajob.com Please be aware:

1. This is a PRC government-owned website. Don't bother making email inquiries to the staff as they almost never answer them. Customer service Mao-era style.

2. Nearly all of the schools posted in the top box are DESPERATE to find a FT and for good reason.

3. Exception: Tan Kah Kee College, part of Xiamen University but with its campus in Zhongshan further inland but on the water nonetheless. Excellent waiban (i.e. FAO), very responsive to my queries. Excellent salary for 13 actual hours of classroom contact per week. These students are all undergrads who are just grateful to have a chance at a college degree. Campus is lovely and quite newly developed.

4. Many of these colleges and schools have been posted here for three months or more. That should tell you something.

5. Respond directly to the schools. Do NOT use this website staff as a liaison or the process will take months!

6. Avoid that private school in Chaoyang, Beijing. I know three FTs who worked there and left. Students are excellent but the headmaster/owner is a control freak and they mess with your salary and schedule.

7. Many of these listings duplicate another PRC website, Angelina's Cafe, which is a rip-off of Dave's ESL Cafe.

Good luck.

While I have noticed many of the offers on several sites, I have to defend Angelina's ESL Cafe, which is not just a ripoff of Dave's. For one, Angelina's is a recruiting company, there are no messageboards (the lifeblood of Dave's), and it gives its own helpful travel info, not submitted from other teachers. I got my job through them, after dozens of my apprehensive questions calmly answered by phone and daily online chats (How many recruiters will just chat with you online?) I arrived to find the situation far better than described to me, and an excellent FAO and English department, who accept my input, classroom decisions, and offer help whenever needed. A few months after I arrived, 2 representatives from Angelina's visited our school, bearing small gifts for the teachers they recruited. We would have gone for dinner as well if I didn't have class. Even now, I can and still do sometimes chat with the recruiter. My school has been on their website for over a year, with virtually the same information. I found no reason not to accept 1 year ago, and I see no reason why someone would not accept the position now. There is no "desperate need" at this campus. They, like me, are just keeping their eyes open.

I would like to concur with "frigginhippie" in his assessment of Angelina's Cafe (www.anesl.com).

I have used them and they have been exceptionally professional. And I have referred others to them and they have also found them to be exceptionally professional.

And they are one of the larger agencies in China. And no, I don't work for them, and no, I don't own any shares of their stock, nor do I have a vested financial interest, direct or indirect.

Hippie and Alex,

I retract the implication of what I said. Actually, I was being flippant. I meant the name of their website is a rip-off. I'm glad at least one government website is diligent, too, and have no reason to doubt your testimonials. Thanks for the clarification. However, but: I stand by what I said about many of the schools regularly posting there. By the way, "desperate" doesn't necessarily connote "bad" in this specific context. It may simply mean "bad luck," as in not getting enough responses from qualified, sincerely interested FTs.
