i read on a post last week about a web page for double checking universities in china. meaning, you get the job offer, you're not sure about the uni, so you go to this web page, enter it in, and you get some kind of report or feedback. i haven't checked it out, but someone mentioned it on this forum. i thought i bookmarked it, but i guess i didn't. if anyone knows the link, please let me know.

None of the sites mentioned in this posting work. They all have been under "construction" for months.

First try a Google search. That will usually turn up leads that lead to other leads.

Next, try www.englishschoolwatch.org. If someone has had a bad experience, it probably will be there.

Additionally, try ww.eslteachersboard.com (School Reviews and General Forum). It's another good place to look.

And of course, this board itself.

Regards.

Not to toot my own horn too much, but my own site isn't a terribly bad resource.

I should also mention that I think what you are referring to is TESall's school review search engine. There's a portal of it on my website, but if you want to go directly to their site, it's www.tesall.com .

Oddly enough, we can't seem to get it to search my site at the moment, so you have to do a separate search. Oh well.

Another site for checking schools is www.buxiban.com

Nate,

Please DO toot your own horn. I have used your site on many occasions, and I apologize for the oversight in not mentioning it in my posting. It is a good and helpful site.

For example, before anyone else's site, your site carried good warnings about Chifeng Yincai School in Inner Mongolia. I almost went there but then I noticed the posting on your site. And when I contacted all the teachers still there, they confirmed the information on your site.

So for the other readers who may come across this posting, do indeed refer to Nate's site.

The buxiban site, however, at least the last time I checked, carried not much information about the People's Republic.

Kind regards, all.

Agreed.

Nate's site would have to be the most comprehensive as far as reviews at this current time, and this is only because he has worked so hard at processing all the information that he no doubt receives.

In my opinion each of the sites listed above has validity for those seeking information about schools. In my opinion, Nates and Buxiban are the best for information about schools. This does not mean that they are in competition however. Surely they compliment each other.

I am not on the payroll at Buxiban.com but many of the articles you see over there are ones that I have submitted. The site is well used in Taiwan, and is often referred to there as a good resource. I am unsure as to why there seems to be a bit of a reluctance over here on the China forum for teachers to accept that site. Afterall, the more information about schools available, the better it is for all teachers - no matter whose site the information is on. I would think that most people should really be using more than one site for research purposes anyway, and if you can read some information about a school on one site, and then see that information verified on another site, then surely the ultimate winner is the teacher.

I am certainly not going to dispute this. That site is certainly Taiwan heavy.

There is only one way to change this. If you would like to see more information on that site about China, why not take a moment to make a submission about your experiences with your current school. This information may just be of value to someone in the future.
