Ok. So I'm leaving China (only to return). I have two questions. What do I need to show immigration when I leave? I have a Z visa in my passport and I am in possession of the little green book. And... Is it relatively easy to get a 6-month business visa - no questions asked? Many thanks in advance.

Why so afraid? YOu came to CHina, you are free to leave at any time - provided you have your passport and a valid visa! If it si expired, woe betide you!

You won't need your green booklet. You are supposed to return it to your employer, but if you don't, you have a souvenir!
Get a business visa in Hong Kong. You can actually get a tourist visa now for up to 6 months (no meaningful difference!). It seems visa costs are comng down as some offer six-mo0nth visas for less than 500 HK dollars.

I strongly recommend PHOENIX TRAVEL, 96 Nathan Rd., 7th floor, just opposite the mosque in Kowloon Park. It is a convenient 5 minute walk from CHUNGKING MANSIONS, where most backpackers end up for the night.

Ask for BENJAMIN WONG. A business visa will set you back some 700 HK dollars and be available by 6 p.m., provided you hand in your passport and a picture before 11 a.m., the same day!

You are supposed to return the books to your employer or do so at the border.Whether you do so is up to you.
A six month business visa can be bought in HongKong for 500 0r 600.
Phoenix travel Nathan Rd, opposite the Mosque, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. It is NOT on streetlevel, I think 7th floor.
