does anyone have any suggestions for how i might go about doing that before i leave the US? And any estimates on what I should expect to pay? How does it work in mexico is there a large deposit (refundable?) and is there typically a certian amount of time you have to sign a lease for? |

Are you planning to teach English in Guadalajara? If so, you would want to be somewhat in the vicinity of where you will be working. The school can give you pointers on apartment locations and prices, and probably can help find one for you before your arrival. What you pay for rent is going to depend on location, amenities, etc. just like anywhere else. |

Hi dulcenaia,
Samantha is right. We have a school in GDL and we provide teachers or students with apartments. The thing is that you need an furnished apartment i gues. This makes things more dificult. I have actualy a friend from Canada who I think has a room available. I will ask him. If not we have a good deal with a hotel here. This will cost you 18 dollars a day but is including breakfast and lunch.
It is much easier to search for your own apartment when you are here. If you want we can help you searching for one. There are several newspapers where you can look and also there is one news paper where you can place a free ad on fridays.
A good website to look at is http://www.mexplaza.com.mx. Here they offer daily a lot of places for rent.
Some landlords ask for a deposite. Some times one month some times two but they are refundable. For the minimum time of renting the place. This is negotiable. My apartment was for a year but i got several friends who had no minimum amount of months. All depends on what you agree on.
If you need more info just write me an email.

Much easier is you do it from here in GDL. I advice to take a hotel a couple of days and use these days to look around.

Hey, I would have to agree with most posters. I was able to locate an apartment online, and 2 months ago when I booked it, I thought it was a good deal. Now that I get closer to my departure date, (Saturday!!!!) I realize that I would have been better off finding a place when down there. Oh well, too late to fix that one, but if I did it again, I would wait until I am there.
I am positive that my Mexican friends will laugh at the amount I am paying! |
