At Interlang, our contracts prohibited us from discussing Armenians, Kurds, and sex...
As to preston's Christian film rating site, I say Jesus Christ! and I mean it in the non-Christian, sinful, taking the Lord's name in vain kind of way... What's with these people? Religious fundamentalism is not only dangerous, it's freaking annoying! |

The thing that cracks me up is that they are actually more pervy than anyone- I can just imagine them sitting in the cinema with their notebooks writing down every double entendre, flash of flesh and gay scene...talking of taboo subjects, I talked about almost everything with mine without problems. But the day we looked at an article on gays, all hell broke loose. |

Don't bother talking about possible autonomy for a separate Kurdish State, or the Armenian Genocide question.
Reasonable discussion is not an option, with regard to both those topics. Off limits. |

Yeah, just say Kurdistan and watch the sh*t fly!
The Armenian thing is harder to avoid these days since it's in the news so much. Most of my students are responding with a sense of upset mystification-- like, 'How can they say these things when we all know for absolute incontrovertible fact that it didn't happen?' I find the ones with poorer educations are more able to accept it, like maybe it just wasn't pounded in so hard that it DIDN'T HAPPEN. Generally those are the ones who are capable of critical thought... |
