As you are presumably a white caucasian, this could cost you rather a lot in plastic surgery.
I suggest Ketama, the Beka'a valley or the Golden Triangle. At least the local agricultural produce will help you maintain your illusions intact. |
When I talk about being able to blend, I'm talking just existing in amongst the local population. For example, when I was in Ocho Rios, Jamaica there was swarms of people trying to sell me things because they new I was a tourist and they wanted my money. But when I was in Miami, there was nobody haggling me to buy something. I just simply blended in amongst the multitude of people. |
Yes, as you, presumably, are a white Caucasian, and, presumably, most others in Miami were, too (after all, a large portion of the population there is just that). I am willing to bet, however, that most of the people trying to sell you things in Jamaica were most certainly not white Caucasians.
By the way, it is 'knew', not 'new'. |

Apart from the fact that there are more white caucasians in Miami than in Jamaica, I suspect the main reason was that in Miami you were poorer than the panhandlers
It shouldn't be too difficult to find a place where the people are so poor they don't even have anything to sell you. On the other hand, if they don't have money for anything but essentials, then they are unlikely to have much money for English lessons.
You can get a pitiful salary in rural Thailand if you like working for a pittance. |

You might also want to try one of the former German settlements in southern Brazil. I have heard that the people there are very white so you should be able to blend in nicely. |

I think everyone is misunderstanding what I meant by blending in. I JUST WANT TO GO SOMEWHERE THAT ISN'T A TOURIST TRAP...SOMEWHERE WHERE THE PRICES AREN'T JACKED SKY HIGH AND FLOODED WITH TOURISTS. |

Re: Blending in
One of the reasons I like Thailand so much is that it is one of the few places that I have lived where the local folks just don't take much notice of you and leave you alone. It the only place where I have ever lived where I can be in a large crowd of people and forget that I am a foreigner. I like the comfortable feeling that comes with that.
And yes, there are lots of EFL jobs in Thailand - many upcountry don't pay so well - but well enough to feed and house you - with enough left over to have a good time. But not enough save anything of significance or pay student loans with. |

| I'd recommend Libya.Out in the desert you'll have no hassle from the locals as there are no shops and they've got nothing to sell. You can chill out for weeks on end under the stars and wonder about the good things you have done in your life to merit such serene solitude. When in need of an adrenalin rush you can get on a 30 year-old company plane and cruise around between gas plants and get high on the images of flares burning in the depths of night....you could probably get high on the fumes too.The space time continuum that is Libya will ensure that weeks will turn into months and months into years and before you know it you'll be on a waiting list for a new liver having lived in the oblivion of 'flash' for longer than you are able to remember like the rest of your pals. |
