|

Hello! I'm currently studying Indonesian at University of Gadjah Madah in Yogyakarta. I've decided to stay longer and teach--I taught for 1 1/2 in Taiwan. I've read some of the postings about monthly salaries, but what are the going HOURLY RATES? Or per class rates? Private lesson rates? I'll have a master's degree in June, and I have a TEFL certificate as well. I'm hoping to teach in local universities, as long as I can get one of them to help me with a visa.
Thanks so much!
P.S. I'm American--does the accent matter much in Indonesia? |

If you are teaching private classes, I imagine you can charge somewhere between Rp 100,000 and 200,000 an hour. But maybe somebody can contradict me.
For a school's hourly rates divide the monthly salary by the teaching hours per week, then by 4.345. E.g. if a school pays 8 million for 24 hours a week, the hourly rate is 333,333 / 4.345 = 76,717. (This takes no account of paid leave.) Overtime rates will probably be a bit higher. Apologies if this is perfectly obvious.
American accents are fine. In fact, Indonesians are more used to American English than other varieties. |

Thanks, Numps! If anyone out there DISAGREES with 100,000-200,000 rupiah/hour for private classes, please let me know. Any other figures about what I should get paid would be appreciated too . . . . |
