Can anyone direct me to a good website to price flights within China?
Who are the main carriers?

Be very careful with agencies. They advertise some very attractive fares, but often the fares don't really exist. In some cases the flights don't even exist.
elong is a good example. They recently advertised a single fare from Beijing to Harbin for RMB400 (the normal fare is 920). My g/f contacted them, and even booked a ticket with them which was going to be delivered the next day. Later that day we checked with China Southern, whose flight it was, for the arrival time in Harbin, only to find out that the flight did not exist! In fact no airline had a flight at the time stated by elong. When my g/f called them back to query this, they denied all knowledge of her reservation, but offered her a seat on a different flight at RMB880! Sounds like a scam to me!
There are good agencies and not so good agencies - be careful. |

A good way to check flight information is through this website. www.abacus.net
I haven't tried elong.net yet but they do post some deals. Sometimes your city's local travel agencies have promos.

Hi mike w,
Is your avatar MEANT to look like the Australian PM John Howard? There's an uncanny resemblance there.

never had a problem booking flights to different destinations and receiving tickets. Some agencies on occasions actually looked for much better deals for me and they always made me aware of peak times and off-peak, if you like; eg, dalian to jinan, some days 900+ other days 400 +. MAke a few phone calls and see if you can also get a flight timetable. |
