Hello. I posted an earlier post with the subject:
WH Visas/Humanities visas
I have been told on that one that you need 3 years "Full time" experience in order to qualify for the humanities visa. Now some schools out there in countries like China, Thailand, Vietnam (etc) will have you work something like 25 hours a week. If I had 3 years of 25 hours/week experience, would that be considered full time to the extent that I could qualify for the humanities visa? Also, how long can I stay in Japan under a Humanities visa? Thanks.

Glenski and Paul are the experts here, but it's my understanding that you don't automatically get the humanities visa, regardless of the number of years you've worked elsewhere. With a minimum of three years experience, however, you theoretically can qualify for sponsorship--in other words, you'll still have to find a company willing to sponsor you. The length of your visa would then depend on the length and nature of the employment contract you receive.
Here's some additional information:

Not exactly. The length of your visa is either 1 year or 3 years. It depends on the whims of immigration as to which one you get. You and your sponsor (employer) can request either one until you are blue in the face, but it has no influence on immigration's decision. |

I've recently heard that the 3 year work visa is no longer offered. |

Okay I understand that I need an employer willing to sponsor me for the humanities visa. Although I don't see many positions on the internet that are looking for people with 3 years work experience. Most positions say that you need a degree. Any suggestions? |

Having the three years ESL experience, it is not a sure that you will get the visa. Degree holder can get a visa almost automatically. This reason makes employers more selective to make sure they don't invest time in someone who might get rejected. Some company like Nova will hire people on Working Holiday visa. You can ask them to submit your work visa application and if it fails, you get the WHV... As for companies requesting only degree candidates, you are out of luck. |
