Ok I know it is not the real world but if you had a blank cheque to open a school what would you buy. Software, hardware, materials, etc.

A great big, brand new shiny MERCEDES BENZ. Oh, and a book to photocopy.

Interactive whiteboards such as those becoming standard at the British Council institutes around the globe and at private schools here in HK.

Interactive whiteboards? Had one for ages. I give the marker pens to the students and say "Get writing!"

Thanks,

I was going to ask the same question, but chose to make a joke about it rather than admit my ignorance. Enlighten us, someone, please!

I just want an interactive whiteboard that cleans itself, corrects my spelling and grammar and cleans the outside of my hand every now and again.

Ok the list starts here.
A bloddy good photocopier with warranty and live-in repairperson
A proper coffee machine for real coffee and have this on tap for teachers.
A kettle and toaster
Chocolate bars and cakes
refillable board pens
Ashtrays...................and a room full of comfy chairs with a tv/radio/bookshelf/FRIDGE!!!!
A laminator to laminate the pages of the books that will be used in the photocopier.
decent recording equpiment Tape, Cd, DVD and video.
A set of computers for an in-house network with two printers.
Stacks of card and coloured paper, gluesticks etc a decent guillotine and a BIG table to prepare work on.
A direct telephone hotline to the pizza/Chinese/Indian/takeaway deliveryshop
A cardboard toilet roll tube, some pipe-cleaners and an empty Squezy bottle and some sticky-back plastic, a paintbrush and apaintbox and some plasticine and some milk bottle tops

some scissors

Then I would slip the rumour, that we had increased teachers wages, out to a few teachers.
Then I would probably wake up

If the school were for children, one thing I would make a fund for would be a crayon of each color for each child. They would learn their colors much better if we could do the activities which require this.

A really comprehensive library of materials - authentic texts, magazines, short stories, novels, etc., etc. Movies/plays/scripts, music/lyrics... Video recording and playing equipment...

A well built building that is warm when it should be and cool when it should be. A variety of rooms (classrooms, listening labs, computer/internet labs, auditorium/stage for plays and performances) - all with lots of space to move and reaarange the very comfortable furniture... Satellite TV systems that would have a variety of English language programs (with TIVO).

A staff that would include a scheduling coordinator, recruiter/liasion who has lived in the West who would handle all visa issues and assist new teachers with settling into their new life when necessary, a chef with a cafe on site with a veritable smorgasboard of good cheap food and coffee... And of course, great salaries for all the teachers - all while providing reasonable tuition for students!

Let us know when you open this school dmb - I'll be first in line for work!
