A teacher was offered a contract to teach at a High School in Taiwan.

The conditions offered in Taiwan:

1. Over $2000 Canadian dollars a month, tax-free paid by the school.

2. Free accommodation.

3. 25 contact hours per week. Each 'contact' hour is in fact 45 minutes.

4. Return flight at the end of the contract.

5. Three weeks (paid) vacation during Chinese 'Lunar' New Year in January/February.

6. School hours of 10am-6pm during which time the teachers need to be on site, but not necessarily teaching. Teaching Monday to Friday only. Weekends free, and frequent Chinese/Taiwan holidays. School year - September 2005 to June 2006.

7. Allowance of NT$7000 (Taiwan dollars) per month for teachers not wishing to use the school provided accommodation.

Most teachers save $1000-$1200 dollars per month, or more. Many repay their student loans in this way.

Have any of the Turkophiles on this page actually worked and lived in Taiwan?

The teacher has one week left to sign the contract, otherwise loses the position.

And how is this related to Turkey? If we wanted to teach in Taiwan, we'd be teaching in Taiwan already. Hell, half of my friends from university in Canada are currently slogging away in Taiwan and Korea.

We (or at least myself and many of my colleagues) know about the pay and hours and holidays blah blah blah of many other countries through experience and research so we don't need you to come in and tell us that we are being woefully exploited (or underpaid or overworked or whatever) by the duplicitous turks.

Ghost, those are the same as my conditions in Korea, oh except that my figures are in US dollars Wink
I'm sure people work places that make them happy though. Me, I'm off to China next. Korea is just a way of making savings.
