I've peeked, and I know!
Shame about the sporran mystery. My guess was that it was to weight down your kilts so they didn't flap around in the "breeze" you get up there in the Highlands.
Then I thought they might be used to carry around your groats, seeing as how you don't have pockets in your kilts.
Or maybe you can sneak a small hip flask of something warming in there, to keep you going through those interminable bag pipe concerts...
