Could anyone supply me with current information (good or bad) the INKUR language school in Izmit?

The school may be good or less good, but if you accept an offer there, be sure to check the situation with regard to eggs in Izmit. A few weeks ago, a study revealed heavily contaminated eggs in the Izmit City area.

One should avoid eggs, and alternatively bring a couple to the Uni. Lab or the toxology Dept. at the Regional Health Centre for updated testing.

Make sure you bring a cross sample from different providers in the city, asking where they originated from. Be careful.

Ghost, you'll be glad to know that the eggs in Istanbul seem to be ok. I've eaten quite a few in the last week and I seem to be ok.

When you ingest dioxin and other noxious substances, they slowly build up in your body over the years, and you will feel perfectly healthy. The damage usually comes to the surface many years down the road, and then the illnesses manifest themselves.

The effects are cumulative.

In Istanbul, be careful of some of those Doner stands near the ferry boats. They are cheap and delicious, but the meat is not all that good, and some are past the due date. The price is right at less than one new turkish lira, but they are not very healthy.

In Istanbul, choose some of the 'non tourist' restaurants, where the Turkish office workers go for lunch. You can get a pretty good lunch there for about 2-3 new Turkish lira or less, full course meal.

Avoid the tourist restaurants, as they are overpriced and no better than what you get in the local places for Turks.

Ghost, zam geldi. You have been away for too long. I don't think you can get a 'full course' meal for 2-3 ytl anywhere. someone tell me different. I'm Scottish and always on the look out for a cheap meal

Also, them ferryside kebab joints cost about 1.25 ytl for a chicken d�ner and a bit more for the meat ones. Never been killed by them yet, though am waiting for the eggs to kick in.

BTW ghost, given that you have been gone for over a year and were barely here to begin with, dont you think you ought to come back to price check and update your data?

Hmm, yes this issue with the eggs is unsettling... and certainly something to be aware of when in Turkey.

Actually, I am much more concerned with knowing whether or not the school is a "bad egg" or a "good egg".
If anyone would be able to provide me with relevant information about the school, I would be very grateful.

I work at Inkur in Izmit and yes the school is on the level. Its my second year here. Its small only 3 foreign teachers right now.
Yes Inkur do provide the apartment and the work visa which is great if you plan of being in Turkey for many years. Otherwise you are stuck working at certain language schools. Some schools don't care but a lot of the better places and non- teaching jobs usually require you to arrange a work/residence permit yourself.
The biggest complaint about working at Inkur is the money. They pay on time and full but the renumeration is low for the work expected.
Also Izmit is a boring place and not many people speak English. Its more friendly than Istanbul and everybody seems to know me. They are not any foreigners here.
