My husband and I are in Alexandria, Egypt and scheduled to leave for Taiwan in a little over a week from now. We went to the Chinese consulate today to get our visas, but they informed us that we are not able to get a visa to China from here and we have to go back to the U.S. to get one. What should we do about this? Our flight stops in Hong Kong, so should we just wait and extend our Hong Kong to Taiwan flight and get visas there? Thanks for the help!!!

If you really did try to get a Taiwan visa from the Chinese embassy, I'm sure they'd have been very flattered by your endorsement of the one China policy. Nevertheless, as much as they would like to issue Taiwan visas one day, that day is still far off.

Try the Taiwan representative office in Hong Kong, I'm sure they can help. Just make sure you don't go the Chinese consulate by mistake. Idea

Yes, extend your stay in HK. You want to get a 60 day multi-enrty tourist visa.
